About this book

Most kanji books give you a grid of characters and a list of readings. This one gives every character a page of its own, laid out the same way every time, so you always know where to look.

Every on'yomi and kun'yomi, each with its own example words — because a reading you cannot hear in a real word is not yet knowledge.

Stroke order before the tracing, on the same page. Each frame adds one stroke, drawn dark, with what you have already written in grey.

Three rows of squares to write in: a model to look at, an outline to write inside, a faint one to write over, and then you are on your own.

Five or six real sentences per character that somebody might actually say — not drills. Every one carries furigana above it and romaji below.

Romaji throughout, in Hepburn, with long vowels spelled out (kyou, not kyō) so you can type what you read.

Thirty-two themed chapters, each closing with its own reference tables, its own practice and its own answer key. At the back, an index of all 285 characters by stroke count, with the page each one is taught on.
